Rethinking Youth Mental Health Policy: What Kenya's Young Population Actually Needs
Kenya has approximately 100 registered psychiatrists serving a population of over 50 million, with the vast majority concentrated in Nairobi and a few urban centres. Mental health receives less than one percent of the national health budget. Behind these statistics are young Kenyans navigating depression, anxiety, and trauma with minimal institutional support. The solution requires fundamentally rethinking how services are designed, funded, and delivered.
